At Hermitage Grove, we believe every human has the inherent right to live an empowered life, filled with choices, opportunities, and independence. Our mission is to create a welcoming and inclusive space for individuals with mental health challenges and people with disabilities.

This scenic hub is designed to help participants develop new skills, connect with nature, and build meaningful relationships—all in the beautiful countryside setting they deserve.

Opening in November 2024, Hermitage Grove will provide participants the chance to explore and engage with a variety of enriching activities, all while soaking in the natural beauty and tranquillity of our rural setting. Whether it’s hands-on experience with animals, tending gardens, learning practical life skills, or just having time to sit and reflect, every day at Hermitage Grove offers something new and rewarding.

Gardens and Greenery: Grow and Thrive

At Hermitage Grove, participants can also engage with nature through gardening. Activities such as planting, watering, and weeding flowers and vegetables, and maintaining garden tools, are not only enjoyable but also foster a sense of accomplishment and well-being.

  • Attend to composting and contribute to the growth of our gardens
  • Learn basic plumbing by changing washers on taps and sprinklers
  • Cut and collect firewood for the community fire pit

Gardening is a proven way to enhance mental health, encourage physical activity, and provide a calming, outdoor experience.

Animal Welfare and Care

Our animal areas provide a unique opportunity for participants to interact with and care for various animals. Activities include:

  • Cleaning animal yards and composting waste
  • Brushing and cuddling friendly goats
  • Learning about animal care and feeding routines
  • Placing seeds for local wildlife like Cockatoos, Galah, and other birds
  • Exploring the dry creek beds for Yabbies, Kangaroos, and Hares
  • Our new farm addiction—a 5-week-old alpaca that we’re lead training and bottle feeding

Working with animals can bring a sense of peace, responsibility, and connection to nature, making it an essential part of the therapeutic experience we offer.

Fences, Structures, and Mechanical Maintenance

For those interested in hands-on mechanical work or maintaining structures, we have activities that include:

  • Riding or walking along our fence lines to check for repairs
  • Inspecting and maintaining outdoor furniture and structures
  • Operating tools like hammers, drills, and screwdrivers to fix and maintain various areas of the farm
  • Practicing tractor and ride-on mower skills, along with working on other farm vehicles

These activities help build practical skills and a sense of pride in the upkeep of our farm environment.

Creativity and Crafting: Express Yourself

Participants can also engage in creative pursuits, providing a chance for artistic expression. We offer:

  • Bush art
  • Leather work
  • Mosaic creation
  • Brunch & Brushes sessions where participants can socialize while creating art
  • Hub House Harvest for those who want to contribute to seasonal produce and learn about sustainable farming

These activities offer a creative outlet, fostering community, self-expression, and relaxation.
